In the state of Alaska and in most other states in the United States, you are not actually required to have a college degree in order to work as a corrections officer. The catch, however, is that more and more people interested in the field are choosing to get formal educations.

As such, it is now extremely hard to stand out above the crowd and get hired without formal training of some kind. With that said, however, there is no one educational path that you must follow in order to be hired as a corrections officer.

As long as your degree is in a related area, such as police science, criminology, or criminal justice, you stand a good chance of being hired. What level of degree you wish to receive is up to you, but the higher up your degree, the better!

The good news is that you won”t have to go far in order to find educational opportunities. Alaska is home to several wonderful schools offering programs that can help you to be hired as a corrections officer. You just have to find the one that holds the most interest for you and that you can realistically see yourself completing.

Popular traditional post secondary options in the state include Charter College, located in Anchorage, which offers an associate”s degree program in criminal justice, as well as spielautomaten a bachelor”s degree program in the same; the University of Alaska at Anchorage, offering a bachelor”s degree program in criminal justice; and the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, offering a bachelor”s degree program in criminal justice.

Of course, these are just a few of your many options, and you are in no way limited to just these choices. Remember too that fields such as social work and psychology are also considered to be related.

In today”s world, more and more people are also choosing to pursue their educations online. This option makes going back to school or even heading to school for the first time much easier for those who must balance their educations with family or other work responsibilities.

Do be aware, however, that not all online schools are what they claim to be, and you must do you research to make sure that the one that you ultimately choose is fully accredited and legitimate. Getting a “degree” or even a certificate from an unaccredited institution is an easy way to spend a lot of money for a worthless piece of paper.

In addition to having an education of some kind, you also must be at least eighteen years of age, and you must not have any felony convictions on your record. In fact, a clean criminal background, free of even misdemeanor charges, is really your best option for being hired.

You also need to be in good physical and mental health–you will be tested extensively on both counts–in order to qualify. If you have these traits, however, and are willing to work hard, you can make your career dreams come true!
